Rules and RegulationsCampaign finance is a very important aspect of running for an elected office. There are many requirements that must be met in a specific fashion.

West Virginia election law allows for a very open process where all candidates and committees are held accountable for their actions. This process allows for a more transparent and fair process for all interested parties.

Campaign finance laws have changed many times over the years since the first requirements were established in 1908.

A major revision occurred in the 1976, about the same time stronger laws were adopted at the federal level.

In 2001, 2002 and 2005 the Legislature made numerous changes to campaign finance rules and regulations. Each candidate and committee should review the newest changes in campaign finance laws.
